Welch’s Transport continues its pledge of continuous improvement by challenging itself to operate at the highest possible standard. Not content with the comfort which comes with many years of audit by the same accreditation body, Welch’s Transport went to the market with the desire to have its practices critically assessed in order to step up to the next level, stand out amongst its competitors, stand proud alongside its customers and set an example within the environment in which it operates.
After more than a year of professional support and advice from UKAS, we have successfully implemented many audited changes in order to achieve new standards of ISO 9001 Quality accreditation while reducing our environmental impact with ISO 14001 Environmental accreditation.
Quality Management Systems - ISO 9001
ISO 9001 doesn’t just mean that Welch’s has its paperwork filed nicely, it means that the group operations meet international standards and best practices for quality management; demonstrating our commitment to continual improvement of procedures. This provides assurance that the quality management system we have in place is operating effectively, efficiently and contributes to lower costs.
Environmental Management System – ISO 14001
Doing right by the environment when operating a fleet of over 75 vehicles isn’t the easiest task for any haulage company. But Welch’s has managed to show UKAS that it is determined to drive its environmental performance forward, helped in no small part by some of the keys features of Welch’s Transport’s new Duxford depot:
- Solar Panelled Roof – covering its 60,000sqft warehouse
- Water Recycling Truck Wash – which harvests rain water and recycles previous washes into a 10,000 litre, underground reservoir, minimising the need for mains water.
- Automatic lighting – not just in the offices, but in the warehouses too.
And it isn’t just the buildings and people which helped prove Welch’s commitment to reducing the company’s environmental impact. In the past six months, five new Euro VI compliant Renault artic units have been added to the fleet. By its demands of a significantly lower output of harmful emissions, Euro VI is the highest European standard in environmentally friendly vehicles.
All this benefits the customer!
But the real prize is that all this helps Welch’s customers:
- Provides a competitive and financial advantage through improved efficiencies and reduced costs
- Encourages better environmental performance of suppliers by integrating them into Welch’s business systems.
- Demonstrates a commitment to compliance with current and future statutory and regulatory requirements which enhances your customers’ perception of professionalism at delivery point
- Puts Quality at the starting point of everything we do, making sure we consistently meets customers’ needs and enhances their experience. This in-turn leads to repeat custom, new clients and increased re-investment by Welch’s to continually improve its services
- Working in a more efficient way as all Welch’s processes are aligned and understood by everyone in the business. Increasing productivity and efficiency, bringing internal costs down and helping to maintain a competitive edge.
