Last month we received a call from Uttlesford Foodbank in Saffron Walden. The foodbank was expecting a collection from the Tesco in Great Dunmow, however the van they had booked to collect the items was too small- the collection was 2 tonnes over the expected amount! Uttlesford Foodbank were desperate for a truck large enough to fit all of the wonderful donations from the Great Dunmow community. The team here at Welch’s were eager to help, as we think it’s a wonderful thing that they’re doing at the food bank. We managed to organise a truck to collect the items in short notice, free of charge, and the goods were delivered on the same day.
Sophie, the director at Uttlesford Foodbank, posted this kind message to their Instagram page:
‘’Sometimes in life angels appear and that’s what happened yesterday when I realised the van i’d arranged to collect from @tescofood Great Dunmow wasn’t going to cut the mustard after the success of our summer collection. A quick call to a local haulage company asking for some advice and expecting a bit of sucking in of breath and chin stroking resulted in a “don’t worry we’ve got this”. So a massive thank you to the guys from @welchstransport for going above and beyond to get our donations to us. A few hours later and apart from a mini-mishap involving a roundabout and jar of pasta sauce and everything was safely delivered. The generosity of spirit in our community never ceases to amaze me and I am always grateful for the people we are surrounded by who understand what we are trying to do and go out of their way to help us achieve it.’’
As a family run business, Welch’s always puts people first, and we love helping the local community where we can. This is why we value the incredible work that people like Sophie and her team do to help those in need, showing that community spirit and compassion is still very much alive!
